Les Bourgs Position Statement Regarding Coronavirus and its implications for our service.
At present Les Bourgs Hospice other than the day hospice is running as normal although our visitor’s policy is restricted to close family members only providing they are well. However, we would be naïve to think it will remain business as usual, as our volunteer workforce diminishes and our paid staff are not able to attend the workplace. We are monitoring the situation very carefully and hope to be able to maintain a service for as long as possible be it with a reduced inpatient facility. What we must guard against is harming our staff by asking them to work consistently longer hours thus increasing the risk of them becoming unwell too. In the worst-case scenario of the hospice having to close due to lack of suitably trained staff to maintain a 24-hour seven-day week service we will join forces with our hospital and community colleagues to support them where we can. Please be assured we are making every effort to ensure we are using our existing workforce in the most efficient way and upskilling non clinical colleagues to assist our small team of frontline staff wherever possible. We will all continue to make every effort to support the most vulnerable in our community in these very challenging times.
Please may I thank all our team and the wider Guernsey community for their continued support during these very challenging times.
