Gynette's Ultra Challenge Winter Walk in London

We are always amazed by the personal challenges that individuals take up in support of Les Bourgs Hospice and we are always incredibly grateful for members of our community fundraising on our behalf.

Recently Gynette took on the challenge of the Winter Walk in London, Here is what she had to say about her experience.

“I have raised thousands over the years for Breast Cancer and other Cancer charities but this year wanted to bring it home. I decided the Ultra Challenge Winter Walk in London would be completed raising money for Les Bourgs.

My Stepdad received amazing care by this charity and several friends have also had loved family and friends supported by them.

I travelled to London on the Friday ready for the walk on Saturday 27 January. Met up with my great friend Sam who was raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity in memory of a friend’s husband.

We had decided to do the East Loop Half Marathon which took in the tourist spots of London, even though we have seen these so many times before it passed the time and gave great photo opportunities.

Starting and finishing at the famous Oval Cricket Ground we walked along South Bank through Southwark and Bermondsey before heading back on the opposite side of the Thames passing Westminster and Big Ben.

Thousands of walkers doing their own distance (Full or Half Marathon or the 10k loop), at their own pace all united in raising funds for their chosen charity which meant so much to them.

We completed the walk in 4 hours 30 minutes and had a great day catching up. I hope the money I have raised will help in some way.”
