We are extremely excited to have a new cuddle bed for each of our seven rooms at Andrew Mitchell House. These state of the art, specialist beds can be transformed from a single into a double at the push of a button to allow family members to lay side-by-side with their loved ones. We all know the positive difference the caring touch of someone we love can make to how we feel, so these beds will help to provide additional emotional support and comfort to our patients when they need it the most.
Our Care Manager Letishia Vermeulen says "These beds are ticking all the boxes of what we wanted and more"
Lt-Governor Sir Richard Cripwell, patron of the hospice, highlighted the role of the beds’ role in continuing the emotional bond between patients and their families.
"It’s what we would wish for ourselves,’ he said. ‘The ability for people who are here as patients to lie down with those who they love, who in many cases have been caring for them for a long time, to continue that emotional bond, there’s no price on that."
We could never have imagined at the beginning of the year that we would be announcing this news. We are extremely grateful to the Guernsey Motor Neurone for their extremely generous funding of three of the beds, Dame Mary Perkins, The John Ramplin Trust plus additional benefactors for their very valued support.
