Les Bourgs Hospice pays tribute to Jack Honeybill
19th September, 2024

Jack Honeybill was an influential figure in the history of Andrew Mitchell House and the Hospice that we have today. The success of the redevelopment appeal was testament to his passion for the charity to ensure that the £4m needed for the new building was raised, as well as funding for ongoing running costs secured.
This appeal was a monumental challenge but with the support of an enthusiastic Friends Committee he inspired others to believe that it would be achievable. A common theme in tributes from those that had the honour of volunteering with him during that time is that he worked tirelessly to fundraise and he wouldn’t ask people to do anything that he wasn’t willing to do himself.
One of the standout campaigns was the million pound lottery which Jack committed a huge amount of time to during the three occasions that it was run. He put in hours of time coordinating shifts of volunteers, selling tickets and lobbying for a change in legislation to permit the sale of syndicate tickets which was so instrumental to its success.
In the words of Greville Mitchell OBE, Founder of the Hospice, “Jack started the Friends of Les Bourgs, was probably the single most driving force that drove the continuing funding which was way beyond our wildest dreams. Nobody should ever underestimate what Jack did in supporting the Hospice.
He will be very much missed”.
