Les Bourgs Hospice truly is a special place where acts of kindness, respect and support impact all our lives.

Hospices have always centred their approach on the understanding that, at the end of life, caring for the whole person and their family is the compassionate thing to do. We see how friends and families of the people we care for benefit. This year in particular we have seen the demand for our services increase significantly and the complexity of care need rise. We have also seen younger people with young families spend their last days and weeks cared for by our nursing team. The response from our team has been fantastic.

The high standards have been maintained and we have welcomed new staff to the care team to meet the needs of our patients.  The kitchen team and volunteers provide home cooked meals catering to the specific needs of our patients. The Housekeeping team keep the building spotless and now provide cleaning support in the shop. The buildings are looked after very well and issues dealt with as soon as possible so the care and shop teams can focus without that worry.

I am grateful to the care and support given across Les Bourgs Hospice by our Care Team. Staff and volunteers in the Hospice ensure patients, friends and families are welcomed. My thanks goes to all the staff and volunteers at our charity shop and in our fundraising activities. There are so many jobs done behind the scenes in admin support that keep the Hospice going with our lovely team and volunteers.

We have seen some changes within our Senior Care Tem as we strive to maintain the high standards required for running a specialist, palliative care service. We also welcomed the Reverend Dr Adrian Datta this year who embodies the holistic spirit of Les Bourgs Hospice and who has brought a wealth of experience as a clinical psychologist, in supporting patients, families and the care team.  Our new Chairman Jurat Stephen Jones OBE and Suzy Toynton joined the Board bringing a wealth of experience in charity and health. All these wonderful individuals have been so supportive to me as have the other non-executive directors and The Very Revered John Guille, now retired as Chairman. We welcomed our New Patron, the Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE who is looking forward to visiting us in January 2025.

Thank you to all our supporters from the loved ones who donate in memory and those in the Guernsey community who donate and leave a legacy, raise funds, participate in our events, and buy from our charity shop, through to companies who support us with their time, skills and financial support. All our funding comes from your contributions and we could not continue without you.

I am grateful to Greville and Lisa Mitchell and staff and volunteers who have gone before and left their legacy so that we may continue the good work of Les Bourgs Hospice.
